The wheel of fortune turns round incessantly, and who can say to himself, I shall today be uppermost. -Confucius
I really, really don’t like the imagery on this card. It’s not helpful in figuring out what the card means (at least not to me) and I always ignore it. It reminds me of a Demetri Martin joke, “If you want to make your own mythical creature all you have to do is add wings. A horse becomes a pegasus. A lion becomes a griffin. And a hawk becomes…….a double hawk (I’m awkward)”
This card is awkward. SO I’m going to look at this one instead:
This is from the Gaian tarot deck. Isn’t it pretty? This is something I can get down with. There are prayer beads surrounding the earth, all the signs of the Zodiac, the phases of the moon and each season, all turning around the sun. And lookit the butterfly! Ok, focus. It basically means that all things are possible. DO that thing you want to do, go the place you want to go. Luck is on your side and it’s time to move move move.
This card is about karma. It’s about good things happening and luck turning around. This is a great card to have in a reading, but if you’re a reader, it kind of sucks. It’s ambiguous, and it’s hard to get a clear direction. I just say, “Everything is going to be ok. I don’t know what ok looks like right now, but it’s going to be fine.” That’s not exactly why people get tarot readings, but some things just have to work themselves out. You have to go through the whole process to really learn the lesson, and we can’t tell you cuz it’s cheating. I love getting this as a Final card because I get to look at the client and say, “Yeah, I don’t know. High five!”
The Wheel of Fortune inverted reminds me of a quote my friend, Mary, shared with me. “It is not necessary to change. Survival is not mandatory. -W. Edwards Deming. This card comes up when someone has tacked themselves up on a cross and are doing NOTHING to change their situation. I need a new job, I don’t like my health, I hate my relationship, etc. etc. What are you doing about it? Nothing? Ok, then. Things won’t change. If you keep waiting for other people to make decisions about your life, you don’t get to be in charge of it anymore, and you have to deal with their reality and their decisions. This is the apathy card.
Here is Stephanie Law’s take on the card. I love the cracked wall. It’s coming apart and you can kind of see what’s on the other side. Just needs one good swing with a wrecking ball to let in all of the light.

“This card [inverted] comes up when someone has tacked themselves up on a cross and are doing NOTHING to change their situation.”
I had never, ever, thought of the reversed Wheel like that and I love it! Thanks for the new perspective. I had always thought of it as a kind of downturn of fortune, but this certainly puts a whole new spin on it. And it’s a lot nicer than saying, “Yeah, your life’s gonna suck for awhile.”
(P.S. Shadowscapes is on my Wish List!)

I just got Shadowscapes. I still haven’t done a reading with it yet. Have basically been petting it since I got it.
I always see the reversed wheel as stuck, and the person in the driver’s seat whining that it’s stuck and not doing a damn thing about it. I have a weird imagination.

I did the same with the Gaian Tarot – petted it & cooed for the first week.
Well, I , for one, love your weird imagination! And I’ll bet everyone who reads this blog loves it, too. I really feel every Tarot reader is equipped with an artists’ Soul. So, your imagination isn’t officially weird, it’s just a lot more creative.
